Discovering a Passion for Partnerships

Our story begins in 1994 when founder Eric Vidrine, was approached by a physician group in need of a concentrated local anesthetic for use in implantable pain pumps.

He began his research, and it wasn’t long before the found himself on a plane to Houston to attend an educational seminar to learn more about potential solutions. The seminar was filled with pharmacists from around the country all with a common bond – they were all starting to look towards customized medications to help them solve a patient’s unique medical needs. What started as a journey to find the right chemical left Eric with a calling.

Over the next 3 years, Eric and his business partner, David Mayer, incubated and developed a compounding practice within his father’s traditional retail pharmacy. The passion project grew legs of its own when a local hospice partner had some space available for lease. And just like that, Professional Arts Specialty Pharmacy was born. During that time period, they started to gain national recognition. Eric won the Dupont Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award in 1997 and soon after served as President of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists.  David Mayer won the Dupont Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award in 1999.

A Unique Start in Specialty Pharmacy

As pharmacy began to evolve and become more complex, Professional Arts continued to find new ways to solve problems for prescribers and patients. In 2009 we developed a patient support department with a clinical staff and a patient call center to address pharmacy’s complex needs.  In 2012, we expanded services to assist prescribers with culture and/or DNA reviews.  This included making clinical assessments, therapy recommendations, advanced patient education, and extensive follow-up.

Through this experience, prescribers recognized the value Professional Arts brought to their practice and their patients which is how we entered the specialty pharmacy world.

A new ENT product was on the market and the manufacturer’s Sales Representative visited several prescribers that used Professional Arts Specialty Pharmacy. The Rep came across the same issue in several offices, prescribers liked the product, but they wanted the service they knew only Professional Arts could provide so wanted them to be included as a network pharmacy. That was only the beginning.

We had not originally set out to start a clinical program to satisfy accreditation requirements or contractual obligations, but instead did it because it was the right thing to do for patients and providers.  Since then, Professional Arts has continued to grow to become a National Specialty pharmacy with 50 state licensure and broad payor coverage.

Now Professional Arts Specialty Pharmacy has become the leader in Specialty Lite giving lower priced Specialty products the care they deserve.
